The Goose Girl Fountain, (sculpture). Artist:  Karkadoulias, Eleftherios, sculptor. Karkadoulias Bronze Art, founder. Title:  The Goose Girl Fountain, (sculpture). Dates:  Installed Oct. 1980. Dedicated Oct. 12, 1980. Medium:  Fountain: bronze; Base: granite; Pool: concrete. Dimensions:  Fountain: approx. H. 15 ft.; Base: approx. H. 7 ft.; Pool: approx. H. 35 1/2 in. x W. 15.8 ft. Description:  The fountain contains a sculpture of a smiling German maiden carrying two geese, one under each arm. She wears a simple dress and apron with a scarf covering her long hair. She is centered atop a circular fountain basin which is supported by a bronze pedestal. The underside of the basin is adorned with eight more geese with water flowing from their mouths and bellies. Water also flows from the mouths and bellies of the two geese held by the maiden. The pedestal beneath the basin is adorned with reliefs of vines, foliage, and grape clusters. The pedestal rests atop a rough-textured, gray granite base that in installed in the center of an octagonal pool of water. Two steps lead up to the pool on each side. The goose girl image for the fountain was conceived by the MainStrasse Village Committee. The fairy tale, "The Goose Girl," by the Brothers Grimm was chosen as a fitting symbol to represent the early German settlers in the Covington area who raised geese. The artist's daughter, fifteen year old Anitsa Karkadoulias, was the model for the figure. Children have been seen swimming and wading in the fountain pool.
