    Description: 
    Standing figure of Crawford W. Long wearing 19th century three piece suit. He is leaning backwards on a podium. On the podium on the proper right side of the figure rest medical books and on the proper left side of the figure on the podium a bottle of ether and a rag. His proper right hand rests on the podium and proper left hand holds his lapel. Figure is atop sculpted block which rests on three-stepped base.

    Crawford W. Long (1815-1878) was an American surgeon and pioneer anesthestist. He discovered the use of sulphuric ether as an anaesthetic in surgery on March 30, 1842.
