    Description: 
    A Spanish American War soldier stands in a ready position, hanging his gun between both arms, his proper left hand on the barrel and his proper right hand on the butt. He is in uniform, with hat and ammunition belt. His trousers are stuffed into knee-high boots and his shirt sleeves are rolled up. A saddle bag hangs on his proper left rear hip and a canteen on the proper right hip. The sculpture is mounted atop a pyramidal base composed of three rough-hewn blocks of stone. On the rear of the base is a cruciform plaque containing a circular relief portraying the gratitude of the freed colonies as a woman kneeling before a soldier and a sailor, with the U.S.S. Maine in the background.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture commemorates those who served in the Spanish American War, the Philippine Insurrection and the China Relief Expedition from 1898 to 1902. Egbert Camp No. 10 of the Spanish American War Veterans raised approximately $6,000 for the sculpture project, and sponsored the dedication ceremony, held on Armistice Day, November 11, 1925.
