Remarks:
The memorial cost $24,000. The memorial was designed by local artist Sarah Simpson-Bivens, whose brother died in Vietnam. The work was cast in Italy. The sculpture was originally designed to stand on a concrete square with a cannon and a wrought iron fence. Several years after the installation, the base was changed--the wrought iron fence was removed and a new base was added.
