The monument features Lt. Barachiah Lewis astride his horse. He is dressed in his military uniform which includes a tall hat, a belted jacket, and long boots. His head is turned to his proper left and his proper left hand is raised to shields his eyes. Both Lt. Lewis and his horse look off into the distance on their proper left.

Lt. Barachiah Lewis was a tythingman, a tax collector, and a surveyor. In 1705, as an officer in the military during Queen Anne's War, Lt. Lewis was responsible for moving Native Americans to the Natick and Ponkapoag Reservations and preventing them from camping in the area east of Walpole. The sculpture is installed on the place where Lt. Lewis made his drive against the Native Americans. Lt. Lewis is the father of pioneer Isaac Lewis (1701-1749). The sculpture was commissioned by Isaac Newton Lewis and Mary P. Lewis in honor of their parents, Sgt. William and Judith M. Lewis (1804-1897).
