Inscription on nearby plaque reads: 1992 Renovations/made in memory of/M. STEVENS/and her son/CLIFFORD H. STEVENS/By their family. IAS files contain an article from Preservation News discussing a version of this piece in Sandusky, Ohio. Additionally, IAS files contain a 1959 article by Emma B. Towsley titled "The Most Mysterious Statue in the World," discussing the history of the statue. The origin of the piece is unknown, but at least ll similar statues exist nationwide. The Wallingford statue was donated to the town around the turn of the century by the family of Arnold Hill, a Civil War veteran. According to one recollection, the statue represents a drummer boy from the Revolutionary or Civil Wars, who brought water in his boot to dying soldiers.
