Remarks:
The memorial commemorates the evolution of Wakefield from its beginnings as part of Lynn Village in 1639, to its separation as the Parish of Redding in 1644, and its separation as South Reading in 1812, and finally its name change of 1868 to Wakefield. IAS files contain a copy of the Massachusetts Historical Commission Form C - Monuments questionnaire dated March 1985.
