Inscription:  (On base:) MONUMENTAL BRONZE CO., BRIDGEPORT, CT. (On plaque on base in raised letters:) TO THE MEMORY/OF THE/DEFENDERS OF THE/UNION,/1861-1865./ERECTED BY THE CITIZENS/OF/CARVER COUNTY IN 1892. (Names of those who served in the Union army are listed near the bottom of the base in raised lettering) unsigned Founder's mark appears. Description:  Full-length figure of a Union soldier in full uniform, including cap and long coat. The figure has a mustache and holds a flag in his proper left hand. His proper right hand holds the remnants of a missing sword. The figure stands atop an ornate, tiered pedestal which includes a list of names. Reportedly the first monument dedicated to veterans erected through County funds and public subscription. The Town of Waconia contributed $813.
