    Remarks:
The sculpture is one of three commissioned and dedicated in Rockingham County to represent the county's major product. This sculpture stands at the north end of the county; the second sculpture is located at the south end of the county. A third sculpture was located east of Elkton High School, but was stolen by vandals. The idea for the sculpture was originated by a sixth grade student, Gerald Harris, as part of a school contest sponsored by the Spotswood Garden Club. The sculpture cost $5,650, with funding raised by the garden club from the poultry industry, the Chamber of Commerce and the county. IAS files contain copies of related articles from Daily News-Record, Sept. 21 and 24, and Oct. 22, 1994.
