    Remarks:
The Spotswood Garden Club sponsored a contest on "How to Beautify Your City" in which local school children were asked to participate. Ten year old Gerald Harris suggested a turkey monument to call attention to Harrisonburg's status as the nation's Turkey Capital. With backing from the state chapter of the Garden Club, $5,650 were collected. Contributions were made by the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce, the county, and the poultry industry. Norwood Bosserman designed the sculpture. The sculpture is one of three. Two were installed on the north and south ends of Rockingham County, a third, located east of Elkton High School was stolen.
