    Remarks: 
    IAS files contain information from: Perry, John B., and George Barney, "History of the Town of Swanton," Swanton, VT, 1882, pg. 1063. The monument was erected by a town vote at a cost of about $2,000. It was done in memory of the soldiers from Swanton who died in the Civil War in 1861. It was the first major outdoor commission for the Swanton native, Daniel J. Perry.
