    Remarks:
The Soldiers' Monument was a gift to the Town of Sutton by George A. Pillsbury, who was born there in 1816. After moving to Minneapolis, MN where he served as mayor and entered into business with his eldest son in the Charles A. Pillsbury & Co. flour company, he returned to New Hampshire to bestow upon three communities three separate gifts. In addition to the Soldiers' Monument in Sutton, he gave a hospital to Concord, NH, and a library to Warner, NH. George Pillsbury commissioned Charles E. Cummings to design the monument. Although completed in 1890, the monument was not dedicated until the fall of 1891.
