The sculpture is a tribute to the dairy industry of Erath County, the largest milk producing county in the state. Funds for the $529 sculpture were raised through individual and business donations from throughout the country. The cement foundation and base were installed by Kenneth Evatt and Raymond Stanley. IAS files contain correspondence from Nasco, dated July 13, 1972, providing the model number of the sculpture; a list of monument donors; and a brief history of the sculpture written by Mrs. Joyce Whiting. IAS files also contain related articles from the Stephenville Empire-Tribune, Sept. 19 and Sept. 22, 1972; the Fort Worth Star Telegram, Sept. 22 and Sept. 24, 1972; and Country World, June 24, 1993.
