Description:
A standing Confederate soldier holding his the barrel of his rifle with both hand, proper left hand over proper right. The butt of his rifle rests on the ground near his proper left foot. He wears a field uniform and hat. The sculpture rests at the top of a tall shaft adorned on the front with a relief of two crossed flags. The shaft is set on a square, stepped base and enclosed by an iron fence.

Remarks:
The sculpture was purchased from and installed by J. H. Marsteller Monument Company. The monument is in memory of the Confederate Soldiers of Roanoke County and was installed by the Southern Cross Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Virginia Division Badge of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. The monument is located in front of the old Salem Courthouse which is now part of the Roanoke College.
