Remarks:
Hiram Still (1842-1910), was one of Saginaw's most active businessmen. In company with J. T. Burnham, he operated a large sawmill for many years, and later engaged in raising many thousands of sunken logs from the Saginaw River and its tributaries. He operated a large car ferry business and also purchased a steamer and engaged in the navigation of the Great Lakes. Mr. Still was also one of Saginaw's most active Masons. The idea of a fountain with a watering trough in his memory came about because of his love for horses and dogs. The fountain was constructed at a cost of $1,200. A log which surmounts the fountain symbolizes Mr. Still's interests as a lumberman. IAS files contain related articles from Saginaw News, July 21, 1964 and Saginaw Courier Herald, May 31, 1914.
