(Incised inscription:) To Rutherford's Glorious Dead in the World War: August 1, 1914 - November 11, 1918. United States Declared War April 6, 1917. Monument Erected May 1920. (Plaque on pedestal lists the names of the 19 Rutherford men lost in the war)
Description:
A Tuscan column surmounted with a light (shaped like a torch flame) on a bronze stand. Six bronze eagles, their claws linked by garlands, decorate the base. On the cylindrical pedestal, are two bronze plaques. The upper plaque is 34 in. x 29 in. and bears the names of the 19 Rutherford men lost in World War I with 19 stars around the names. It is surrounded by laurel leaves, topped with a spray of oak leaves and acorns, and flanked by two inverted torches. The bottom plaque is 15 in. x 11 in. and bears an eagle. The column is surrounded by six 10 ft. high light posts and a hedge.
