Erected by the State of South Carolina in memory of Thomas Heyward, Jr. (1746-1809), a South Carolina Judge and signer of the Declaration of Independence. IAS files contain text of a nearby commemorative plaque, and a reference to "Moving Finger of Jasper," by Grace Fox Perry, 1960.
