Full-length figure of a Civil War soldier in uniform, standing on a tiered base. He wears a jacket, with knapsack slung over his proper right shoulder. His trousers are gathered at boot top. He is clean shaven. He holds the muzzle of a bronze rifle in front him with both hands, with the butt resting on the plinth. His proper left foot is on a stone. The base is a Neo-classical revival pedestal with bronze plaques on three sides.

The state legislature provided $1,000 for the creation of the monument, with an additional $1,000 raised within the community. The Waterbury Republican (CT), May 31, 1907, lists a Thomas S. (sic) Jackson, as builder of the memorial. His exact role is unknown. The plaque on the south side listing World War I names was added circa 1920 replacing the original trophy of crossed rifles. Incised text on a low stele in front of monument reads: IN HONOR OF OUR/PROSPECT VETERANS/OF WORLD WAR II/KOREAN AND VIETNAM WARS/DEDICATED THE 30TH DAY OF MAY 1977.
