Description:
Fountain consists of a bronze full-length female figure. She holds a cloth above her head in her proper right hand; the cloth drapes down her back, around her thighs and is caught in her proper left hand. At her feet are two cherubs, holding conch shells to their lips. The cherubs are riding on the backs of fish-like creatures which have open mouths and large fins. The fish rest on a round bronze base of rock. The sculpture sits in the middle of a concrete pool.

Remarks:
The fountain is a recast of an earlier pot metal sculpture by J.L. Mott Iron Works. The new bronze fountain was cast by River Dog Fine Arts Guild. The original fountain was given by Theodore N. Haller in memory of the community's pioneers. The original was removed in 1992 after vandals stole three pieces from it. $50,000 in donations were raised through the Kiwanis Charitable Trust for the recasting. In addition to the newly cast fountain, a new drainage system and newly poured concrete foundation were installed. The original fountain was stored at River Dog after casting and is on display at the Jefferson County Historical Society (see IAS record WA000301).
The name of the figure in the fountain has been a point of historic contention. IAS files contain copies of related articles from Port Townsend Jefferson County Leader, May 20, 1992 and Sept. 1, 1993 and a copy of unpublished material from the Port Townsend Historical Society.
