Description:
A soldier standing atop a tall, tiered-shaft and base. The soldier wears a uniform including a brimmed hat and holds the barrel of his rifle in his proper right hand. The butt of the rifle rests on the plinth at his feet. On the front of the shaft are reliefs of a Confederate flag and a group of weapons. On the proper right side of the shaft is a relief portrait bust of Brigadier General Benjamin Grubb Humphreys. Humphreys is depicted with a full beard and moustache and wearing a double-breasted military coat. On the proper left side of the shaft is a waist-length relief portrait of Major General Earl Van Dorn. He has a beard and moustache, wears a double-breasted military coat and holds a sword over his proper left arm.
