    Remarks:
This eagle is one of eleven installed in 1898 on the roof of the renovated Grand Central Station in New York City. When the station was eventually torn down to make way for a new one, the eagles were removed and dispersed to various collections. In 1966, David McLane purchased one of the eagles and installed it in his back yard in Brewster, New York. When Mr. McLane moved to Phoenicia in 1980, he donated the eagle to the town of Brewster. Pending a suitable installation site, the eagle remained in Brewster storage, until Mr. McLane was able to take the eagle back and donate it to the hamlet of Phoenicia in the town of Shandaken. To raise money for the project, Mr. McLane, along with Dakin Morehouse, the director of the Phoenicia Forge Art Center, worked with the Shandaken Revitalization Plan Committee to organize the Shandaken Eagle Landmark Society. The eagle was dedicated in Phoenicia on Aug. 23, 1986. IAS files contain copies of articles from the Woodstock Times, April 3, 1986 and the New York Times, Aug. 25, 1986.
