    Remarks:
The monument commemorates the patriots who participated in the Battle of Lexington on April 19, 1775, and its original installation site in the center of Washington Street marks the meeting place of the minutemen from Peabody, Danvers, and Beverly before they marched into battle. In 1964, the monument was damaged in a car accident, but was restored in 1967, and at that time artifacts that had been placed in its base were removed and given to the Peabody Historical Society. The monument was relocated in Sept. 1985 and again in May 1990 to improve traffic flow. IAS files contain a copy of the Massachusetts Historical Commission Form A - Area and Site Survey dated Feb. 16, 1967 and a copy of the Peabody Cultural Resources Inventory Sheet.
