Confederate Monument, (sculpture). Artist:  Unknown, sculptor. Title:  Confederate Monument, (sculpture). Dates:  Dedicated 1899. Medium:  Figure: stone; Base: stone. Dimensions:  Figure: approx. H. 7 ft.; Base: approx. H. 16 ft. Inscription:  (On top front of base:) 1861/1865 (On lower front of base:) ERECTED BY/(seven lines of text and names follow) unsigned Description:  A Confederate soldier stands at parade rest with both hands on the barrel of his rifle, the butt of which rests by his proper right foot. He has a moustache and wears field uniform, including a brimmed hat. The soldier is mounted on top of a tall, inscribed, multitiered, columnar base with decorative detail towards the top. In the center of the base is what may be either a circular relief or plaque. The area around the monument is bordered by a circular sidewalk.
