    Remarks:
The mural depicts the 1850's in New Ulm. Scenes depicted include a group of women and an Indian warrior (representing peaceful coexistence) and a group of men and a "lumberman" who is using the wrong end of a saw (representing conflicts brought on by the westward expansion movement, broken treaties, exploitation and war). The New Ulm Business Districts and Southwest Minnesota State College conceived and supported the project. IAS files contain a statement by the artist dated Jan. 10, 1974. For further information see Dingham Sculpture file at the Brown County Historical Society.
