Description:
A life-size bust of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. dressed in a suit jacket and tie. The bust sits atop a rectangular granite pedestal. Adjacent to the proper right side of bust is a rectangular granite pedestal with the names of others who died during the Civil Rights Movement. At the base of the pedestals is a two-stepped base.

According to Save Outdoor Sculpture survey, 1993, inscription originally read "I HAD A DREAM," but was changed to "I HAVE A DREAM," because it caused controversy. See IAS files for further inscriptions. Funds for monument contributed by citizens of New Orleans and the surrounding areas.
