Defiance, Ohio (On back of base, lower left:) Memorial Committee Lloyd Franz, Galen (Hub) Houser, Gary McMaster (Four plaques engraved with dates of World Wars I and II, Korean and Vietnam Wars, with lists of names of local veterans who died in each war) unsigned Founder's mark appears.
    Description: 
    Full-length figure of a striding soldier in combat gear, including helmet on head and gun strapped over proper right shoulder. Figure stands on a small plinth representing rising ground, in turn set on a stone base which supports four large upright plaques of granite and diorite, two on each side of the figure. Proper left two plaques devoted to veterans of World Wars I and II; proper right two plaques devoted to veterans of Korean and Vietnam Wars. The monument is set in a small square paved with dedicatory bricks of grey granite inscribed by individual donors.

    Remarks: 
    The local community raised $54,000 in funds for the creation and maintenance of the monument. The Henry County Veterans Memorial Committee raised funds through the sale of inscribed bricks which were used to pave the square surrounding the sculpture. Floyd Melia of Defiance Memorials was responsible for the overall design and the engraving of stone components.
