Remarks:
A Centennial memorial, erected by the Swiss Mennonite Cultural and Historical Association. J. Stanley Regier of Glenn Benedict Architecture was the architect; Milo B. Goering was the general construction supervisor, and Vernon Wedel was the stone mason. Metal Arts cast the globe and cross; and Service Brass and Aluminum Foundry cast the plaques. The memorial commemorates the arrival of Swiss-German Mennonites from the Polish Province of Volhynia in 1874. Many settled at this location and introduced turkey hard red winter wheat, which became a staple of the Kansas economy. IAS files contain photocopies of plaque text. Memorial marks site of early immigrant house.
