He is dressed in wool pants and a short jacket, with an ammunition box on his belt. He has a bedroll over his shoulder and wears a brimmed hat. The soldier on the west side holds a gun in his proper right hand at his side, the butt touching his proper right boot. His proper left hand is by his side leaning on a tree trunk. He wears a brimmed hat, an ammunition belt and bedroll.
The south side of the obelisk contains a bas-relief depiction of a furled Confederate flag with the initials CSA. A bronze lion's head with a spout for a fountain emerges above a covered font at the base of the obelisk on the south side. The obelisk is mounted atop a three-stepped base.

    Remarks:
The sculpture, which cost $2,700, was erected by the Robert E. Lee Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy of Milledgeville, Georgia in honor of Confederate soldiers. It was originally erected at the intersections of Hancock and Wilkinson and dedicated on Confederate Memorial Day, April 26, 1912. Due to increased traffic, the sculpture was moved in 1948 to its current site, a median in South Jefferson just outside the gate of the Georgia Military College.
