    Remarks:
The water trough is reported to have been the idea of William J. Harrison, but his political rival Captain Bradshaw came up with his own firm and was put in charge of arrangements. At least $1,000 were raised in funds for the fountain, which originally had two vessels for horses and a lower one for dogs, "not strays, but the hounds of the Lakewood Hunt Club." The trough was originally located on Clifton Avenue. In 1938, it was moved to the northeast corner of North Lake and Madison Avenues. Sometime after 1981, the water trough was moved to its present location. IAS files contain related information from "New Jersey Historic Site Inventory, Ocean City-Lakewood, Ocean City Cultural & Heritage Commission, 1981 (inventory item 1515-L5).
