Description:
Full-length bronze figure of a Union soldier. He wears a uniform with cap and overcoat. He holds a rifle; the butt of the gun rests on the ground in front of him. His proper left hand rests on the rifle tip at the wrist. On his belt are a bayonet and two pouches. The sculpture stands atop a granite shaft which rests on a stepped granite base. The vertical surface of the bottom step is rough-hewn.

Remarks:
The cost of the monument was $2,824.75. The Woman's Relief Corps contributed $1,100 and the balance of $1,724.75 was drawn from a sum appropriated by the town. The monument shaft and base was designed by Matthews (M. H. Mosman & Co.); and was fabricated and erected by McDonald, Cutler & Company. The sculpture was cast at Chicopee, MA.
