Description:
A large granite wall inscribed with the names of 273 U.S. service members who were killed in Beirut, Lebanon on Oct. 23, 1983 when a suicide bomber drove a truck filled with explosives into the Marine headquarters building. The granite wall is broken in the middle with a depiction of the bombed headquarters building. And on a pedstal in the center is a sculpture of a Marine holding his rife.

Remarks:
The design for the memorial came from a competition among graduate students held at the School of Design at North Carolina State University. The sculpture of the marine, which was created by Abbe Godwin, was added in 1988.
