Description:
Full-length figure of a uniformed Doughboy stands atop a pedestal on a low, rough-hewn base. The figure is running, holding his bayoneted rifle horizontally in both hands. The pedestal is rough-hewn on the north and south sides and at the top and bottom. Decorative plaques with eagle and scroll motifs are installed on the east and west sides of the pedestal. The east plaque includes a relief of a soldier and sailor, each kneeling with rifles ready. There are army and navy images and accouterments in the backgrounds for each respective figure. Army images include a cannon, trench and shell of a building. Navy images include ships, waves, gulls and a buoy. The relief on the west plaque features artillery. Three cannons are lined up and men carry shells and load the guns. Trees and stumps dot the landscape.

Remarks:
The monument cost $2,500. Joseph T. Heaslip carved and finished the granite. The piece is illuminated with two footlights. In Oct. 1994, when conservation work was done on the sculpture, a new bayonet (possibly of aluminum) was added.
