    Remarks:
Webster was a resident of Franklin, New Hampshire and worshiped at the Congregational Church as a young man. Idea for a memorial to Webster in Franklin conceived in 1909 by members of the Abigail Webster Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. The DAR's memorial fund was augmented in 1931 with donations solicited by Senator George Moses from all over the nation. Sculptor French received the commission in May 1931; a full-length figure was intended (funds were insufficient to realize this). French died in 1931; his daughter Cresson completed the sculpture. Architect Dana designed the base. Bust was unveiled Oct. 12, 1932 on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Webster's birth. Sculpture was damaged by vandals in November 1986; following repair it was returned to its original location. IAS files contain article from Franklin Journal Transcript (Aug. 12, 1987) and additional related citations.
