A uniformed Spanish-American soldier stands with his proper right hand on his hip, a rifle in his proper left hand, butt end down. He wears a rough rider-style hat, rolled sleeves, boots, and ammunition belt. The soldier is mounted upon a two-tiered base with an upper tier of white granite. A bas-relief plaque on the bottom front of the upper tier depicts a waist-length figure wearing classical garb, with head lowered and proper right hand upraised. The figure stands behind a shield with an emblem of a shield topped with an eagle, inscribed with "PATRIOTISM" on the top. An integral curved seating area is installed on either side of the lower base in the front.
