    Remarks:
Commissioned by the Daffodil Garden Club at the suggestion of Mrs. Gloria Jones, then Club president. The cost was $12,000 and the land on which the monument stands was donated by the State of Alabama. The sculpture honors Army aviators stationed at Fort Rucker, in Enterprise, Alabama and all pilots who served in the Army. This is reportedly the first known memorial specifically to Army aviators. Captain Jerry Striplin was the model. Photographs and a flight suit were sent to Italy for the artist to work from. The base was made by Mr. & Mrs. Leo Ingram of the Ingram Memorial Company. The sculpture broke as it was being loaded onto the boat from Italy to Alabama, and was repaired at Tavarelli Marble Works before attempting to re-ship. IAS files contain related articles.
