    Description:
The original wood sculpture depicted a standing figure of a Native American male dressed in only a loincloth and a headband with two feathers in the back. He wears his hair in two braids that hang down his back. His arms are extended up over his head, and in his hands he holds a spear horizontally with a bison skull positioned in the center. The spear pierces the white skull of the bison and the figure holds the spear horizontally with one hand on either side of the skull. The original wood sculpture was enameled or varnished a yellow-umber color on the body and dark brown on the hair. The original wood sculpture rested on a octagonal base. The bronze cast that replaced the original wood sculpture is installed on a square base adorned with a bronze plaque.

Administered by City of Englewood, Parks & Recreation, 3400 South Elati, Englewood, Colorado
Located near roundabout in Bergen Park, Englewood, Colorado
    Provenance:
Formerly located 1/2 mile northwest of the intersection of South Broadway & Hampden, Englewood, Colorado
    Remarks:
Photos in IAS image file show the original wood figure holding the bison skull and spear over his head. The sculptor carved the original wood sculpture from a dead elm tree on his property in Englewood using a chain saw and then a hammer and chisel. When the artist sold the property, the wood sculpture was removed. In 1988, the artist donated the wood sculpture to the City of Englewood where it was installed on the Plaza at Little Dry Creek. The artist intended to cast the wood sculpture in bronze if funding became available. By 1994, the wood sculpture had begun to deteriorate due to weather, and the artist moved the sculpture to his mountain cabin. He created small size versions of the sculpture in bronze, and later the Evergreen Bank commissioned him to cast a full size sculpture in bronze, and the bronze sculpture was installed in front of the bank near the roundabout in Bergen Park.
