    Description: 
    A painted, white horse standing atop a rectangular base that tapers at the bottom. The base is set on white stone and surrounded by a black wrought-iron fence.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture was commissioned in 1930 by Emma Rettig and her sister Mabel Rettig owners of the White Horse Tavern (later White Horse Inn, owned by Wemett Corporation). The sculpture replaces an original wood horse which stood in front of the tavern, built in 1812. The replacement sculpture was designed and cast by J. Morris of the Norris Stone Company of Rochester. Jon H. Alexander was the carver, and Harold R. Nurse the engineer. In 1992 the sculpture was placed on a new base and restored by Raymond Colaruotolo of the Stone Carving Studio in Rochester. Its broken nose and ears were rebuilt and its leg was repaired. In winter, a blanket is draped over the horse's back and its neck is decorated with a wreath at Christmas time. IAS files contain articles from the Democrat and Chronicle, June 21, 1992 and the Avon Herald News, Aug. 5, 1992.
