Inscription:  (On base, front:) 1861-1865/TO/PATRIOTISM/AND/VALOR (On base, rear:) ERECTED BY/THE TOWN OF/DENMARK/IN GRATEFUL/RECOGNITION/OF THE SERVICES/OF HER SONS Description:  Full-length figure of a uniformed Union soldier stands atop a square pedestal at parade rest. He holds his rifle in front of him with both hands around the barrel and the butt by the outside of his proper left foot. Brackett, a Denmark native and youngest from the Town to serve in the Civil War. In March, 1912, Brackett offered to pay one half of the cost of a monument if the Town would raise the other half.
