Description:
Full-length figure of a uniformed Union soldier stands atop a square pedestal at parade rest. He holds his rifle in front of him with both hands around the barrel and the butt by the outside of his proper left foot.

Remarks:
The erection of the monument was initiated by John A. Brackett, a Denmark native and youngest from the Town to serve in the Civil War. In March, 1912, Brackett offered to pay one half of the cost of a monument if the Town would raise the other half. Over $1,000 was raised through donations and subscriptions. IAS files include and excerpt from "Denmark, Maine, Past and Present," compiled by Sylvia Davis MacDonald et al. (Denmark, ME: Cardinal Printing, 1977).
