    Description:
A female stands holding a torch in her raised proper right hand. The sculpture is mounted atop a column with a multisided cornice. A band of fluting decorates the base of the column. The column is set upon a four-sided base with cannonballs at the top of each corner. The base cornice is decorated with intricate corner molding and notches across each side. Military figures are mounted on each corner on square projecting bases.
On the southwest corner stands an artillery soldier holding a cannon swab in his proper left hand with his proper left foot propped up on a cannon barrel. On the northwest corner, a sailor stands with proper left hand on his hip looking through binoculars raised in his proper right hand. A cavalryman stands on the northeast corner wearing a wide-brimmed hat and high boots. A sword is sheathed at his proper left hip and he supports a rifle at his proper right side. A Civil War soldier is mounted on the southeast corner of the base dressed in a cape and billed cap. He rests his proper right hand on his belt and holds a rifle at his side with his proper left hand.
The bottom of the base is stepped. On the lowest step on the south side, an eight foot high black iron pole holds a symbolic eternal flame which is not lit. The sculpture is enclosed by a black wrought iron fence with a gate. Four black painted cannons are situated inside the fence at each corner.
