    Description: 
    A tall granite shaft with bronze soldier standing on top. The mustached, uniformed Civil War soldier stands at parade rest with both hands on the barrel of his rifle, the butt of which rests by his feet. He wears a visored cap, a short cape and knee-length coat. The multi-tiered shaft is decorated with reliefs near the bottom, one of which is of crossed swords or sabers; and has a decorated, inscribed lower section that has four recessed panels with columns on each corner.

    The $6,000 memorial was erected by Lafayette County in memory of her dead soldiers and sailors, and to honor her living soldiers. IAS files contain excerpt from Marian Howard's "History of La Fayette County Soldier's & Sailors Monument, Darlington, Wisconsin," 1989.
