Remarks:
Ratliff Boon was born in 1781. He founded Booneville, Indiana in 1818. He served as State Legislator in 1817; Lieutenant Governor from 1819-1822; Governor in 1822; and was the U.S. Congressman from Indiana from 1823-1839. Ratliff Boon was the cousin of pioneer Daniel Boone. Boon helped to open up all Southern Indiana to settlement. The medallion was originally part of the Old English Hotel in Indianapolis and was saved when the building was demolished in the late 1940s. The medallion was obtained by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No. 3418 and Warrick Post No. 200 and donated by the two Posts to the Warrick County Court House. The Court House now stands on the site of an Indian village that Ratliff Boon removed to make way for the pioneer town of Boonville.
