Monumental Bronze Co., Bridgeport, CT (On base, south face:) IN HONOR OF THE BOYS IN BLUE ERECTED 1893 BY APPROPRIATION FROM THE TOWN AND SUBSCRIPTIONS FROM MANY CITIZENS AND DEDICATED TO THE VETERANS OF THE WAR OF 1861-1865, FROM THE TOWN OF DENMARK AND VICINITY (Names of veterans of the 20th New York Cavalry and 5th New York Artillery follow) (On base, east face:) THEY NEED NO MONUMENT WHO FOUGHT AND DIED FOR THEIR COUNTRY, BUT THEIR COUNTRY EVER NEEDS THE MEMORY AND INSPIRATION OF THEIR EXAMPLE (Names of veterans of the 20th New York Cavalry follow) (The west face of the base has the names of members of the F. M. Leonard Post #525, Department of New York Grand Army of the Republic) (The north face of the base lists the names of veterans of the 5th New York Artillery) Founder's mark appears.
Description:
Full-length figure of a uniformed Union color bearer stands atop an ornate base. The figure has a moustache and wears a caped coat and cap. He holds a flag on its pole in his proper left hand. His proper right hand is on the handle of his sword, on his proper left hip.
