Description:
A uniformed World War I infantryman stands holding his rifle horizontally at waist level with both hands, the butt of the rifle in his proper right hand. He wears a helmet, packs on his chest and on his back, and carries a water bottle on his proper right hip. The sculpture rests on a granite boulder for a base.

Remarks:
The monument commemorates World War I soldiers. SOS! surveyor reports artist as "Gerald D. Ho(rn)?" and indicates that it is possible that the sculpture is signed. For related information see the New York State Historical Association Library (Cooperstown, NY), Special Collections, Ward File. IAS files contain photocopies of historic photos of the monument from the Ward File, at least one taken at the dedication, with the following collection numbers: PH 15.903; PH 15.904; 15.904; 15.905.
