    Description: 
    A male figure stands with a canoe paddle held by both hands, proper left hand over proper right. The bottom of the paddle rests on the base, against the outside of the figure's proper right foot. The figure has a beard and is dressed in a heavy tunic with a belt around his waist.

    Remarks: 
    The statue is symbolic of the early settlement in Carlton County. It also serves to represent the entrance to the Voyaguer's Highway (Highway 53). The sculpture previously stood on Highway 33 adjacent to the Cloquet Chamber of Commerce building but was moved when the Hardee's restaurant expanded. IAS files contain an article entitled "Statue Awaits Resting Place" from Pine Knot dated October 24, 1991.
