    Description: 
    A male figure in mining attire stands atop of a sphere made of six curved steel beams. His proper left arm is bent at the elbow and his proper left hand is holding the shovel handle. The other end of the shovel rests on the sphere. The figure's proper right arm is slightly bent at the elbow and he holds a pickax in his proper right hand. The figure's head is tilted downward. A piece of Cor-Ten steel sits horizontally through the sphere. The bottom portion of the sphere is covered by a pile of iron ore rocks.

    Remarks: 
    The statue overlooks two iron range attractions: Ironworld USA and the Minnesota Museum of Mining in Chisholm. The statue was erected in honor of the miners of the three iron ranges - the Mesabi, Vermillion, and the Cuyuna. IAS files include transcription of nearby plaque and excerpt from the book "Monumental Minnesota," by Moira Harris, Pogo Press, 1992, pg. 72.
