    Provenance:
Formerly located Intersection of Main, Mountain, High and Central Streets, Camden, Maine 1899-1968.
    Remarks:
The sculpture was commissioned by the Camden Soldiers' Monument Association, which was formed in 1889. The Association contributed $800 and the Town covered the costs of the figure and its mounting. The total cost was $1,400. The work originally stood at the intersection of four streets in an area known as Monument Square. On June 9, 1968 the monument was knocked down by a motorist and broken into several pieces. Because it had been struck by vehicles several times before, the artisan who made the repairs recommended moving the monument to a park setting. IAS files include the names of Camden soldiers which appear on the monument and a related article from the Camden Herald, Jan. 19, 1995, which has a photograph of the work in its original site.
