    Description: 
    Soldier standing with both arms at his torso. He originally held a rifle, now missing, broken off by an errant golf ball. The soldier's proper left leg is extended forward. He is dressed in military uniform.

    Remarks: 
    The movement to erect the monument grew out of a suggestion from the local Women's Relief Corps and the Ladies Auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic. The sculpture was made possible by local subscription at a cost of $1,620. The pedestal was furnished by the city at a cost of $105. The monument was dedicated to the veterans of all wars. D. L. Williams of Linneus was the monument dealer. IAS files contain articles from the Centennial book dated July 18-24, 1959 and an undated Quasquicentennial book.
