Rebecca at the Well, (sculpture). Artist:  J. W. Fiske Iron Works, founder. Seelig, Moritz J., b. 1809., caster. (possibly by) Title:  Rebecca at the Well, (sculpture). Dates:  Dedicated July 22, 1896. Digital Reference:  Medium:  Sculpture: painted zinc; Fountain: painted cast iron. Dimensions:  Sculpture: approx. H. 5 ft. 9 in.; Fountain: approx. H. 7 ft. 6 in. x W. 3 ft. 9 in. Inscription:  (On front of base:) ERECTED BY THE W.C.T.U./OF/BLOCK ISLAND. RHODE ISLAND/JULY 22, 1896 (On north side of base:) FOR GOD AND HOME AND EVERY LAND unsigned Founder's mark appears. Description:  Standing atop a square fountain base is a female figure holding a water jug in her hands. She is dressed in Classical robes and her hair is coiled in a braid adorned with garlands of grapes. The ornate fountain base is adorned with three small drinking fountain basins. The sculpture was erected at a cost of between $1,000 and $1,500. The sculpture is nearly identical to J. W. Fiske Iron Works catalog item #408D with modified horse basin #419D.
