(Below:) 1917 WORLD WAR 1918 (Rear of shaft:) ERECTED BY/THE RICHMOND COUNTY ASSOCIATION/1940/WHAT STAND IF FREEDOM FALL?/KIPLING 1914/copyright 1940 unsigned Description:  Granite shaft capped with an eagle with wings spread sitting on a sphere. The top portion of the shaft is encircled with reliefs of stars on a fluted field. The bottom of the shaft features a relief of a torch and is encircled with reliefs of flowers. The shaft sits on a platform with stairs at both the front and rear.
