    Description: 
    A slender metal sculpture with a vine-like motif is installed atop a tiny two-tiered metal basin in the center of a square stone fountain basin. Water flows down from the two-tiered metal basin into the large square stone basin. The exterior of the square basin is adorned with a leaf pattern and each side features a small shell basin for animals.

    Remarks: 
    The fountain was donated in 1898 by the family of Athol native, Ginery Twichell (1818-1881). Twichell began his career as a stagecoach driver, often stopping at a tavern once located near where the fountain is installed. He went on to become president of several railroads and to serve in the U.S. Congress. IAS files contain a copy of the Massachusetts Historical Commission Form F - Structure questionnaire dated Sept. 12, 1978.
